The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 53 Gillette to Devils Tower 100km

I would love to be able to say that the riding was easy, the views were amazing... But most of today looked like this (deceptively hilly)

Except for the bits in which the view was broken by the coal train and/or the power plant

Until we got within 15 miles of Devils Tower, when the hills stopped being deceptive and were honest and up front about being between you and an ice-cream in 36 degree heat. After yesterday's debacle we constantly stopped for rehydration (& ice-cream) but still arrived at Devils Tower feeling like two sun dried tomatoes, flushed and crispy. A cold drink, a dip in the pool, and another ice cream, and we are happily gazing at the beautiful and strange monolith that is Devils Tower, things would be perfect with the addition of a slice of apple pie (thanks for the photo Jenn but it's not quite the same as the genuine article!).
