OK... so today was never going to be one to look forward too. 66 miles on the interstate means no small towns, no great views and nothing to break the monotony of the plains. But the first thirty miles tricked us! Tailwind, cool morning air, lots of downhill, antelope, prairie dogs and a pair of Canadians, Jim and Janet, who stopped just to chat, what enthusiasm! It didn't seem important that we couldn't refill our drink bottles at the only rest stop because the water was so salty, oh what a mistake. The next 40 miles were uphill, with headwind, and the sun burned down upon us little cyclists who couldn't spot a tree, a house, any kind of shelter at all for miles. Then, of course, the obligatory flat tyre, and lunch with all the charm that having lunch under a busy highway bridge can muster, think litter, dirt and dead birds. For distraction we tried to pay attention to all the human detritus along the interstate, as always the copious amounts of blown tyre pieces, hence the flat, and other often seen lost items, including 6 gloves, 2 esky lids, and random pieces of clothing. But the equal winners of oddest items seen, go to the reading glasses and the dog bowl, if you are missing such items did you think to look on the I-90? As diverting as this was the dehydration was really starting to bite, and the final 20 miles were slow and miserable. I have never been so glad that Americans love the bigger must be better style of marketing, and got a iced tea so huge I literally needed two hands to hold it!

64oz (1.9litres) of rehydration later and I am chillin on the campground couch, with the campground cat, waiting for Kerstin to realize she is hungry and start dinner ;)

Hi Girls, as you have probably guessed, Anonymous above is your (now official) brother-in-law Rohan. He and Al were at Mick's with Fran's family for lunch - I spoke to them on Skype. LOVED your descriptions and Jeff's blog. Such beautiful writing great photos. Do you think travelling alone would heighten his cynicism? Company does help. Gave Tash your greetings and she responded by "moving the furniture about". She got all the bedding and shifted it all over the verandah. Don't know why but she seemed pleased with her efforts. The Census man came with the forms to fill in for next Tues (9th) and he loved her, got totally distracted. Keep well. Love Aunty Fran xxxx
