Another night in the tent, the first one warm enough to leave the fly open, but not the first one to be disturbed by inquisitive deer! The heat is already oppressive as we beat a hasty retreat from Thermopolis, figuring that the most expensive campground so far did at least include entertainment ;). The road rolled in a coaster like fashion for the 33 miles to Worland, 33 miles to be amazed by the grand sense of spacious nothingness outside of these towns, the feeling of isolation on the bike descends almost immediately and we ride closer together than usual. Worland's locals and visitors alike all want to provide us with assistance. Kerstin almost brings the post office business to a halt with offers of maps, routes and advice from all corners. We hop from one recommendation to another, bike shop (owned and run by a woman and her cat for the last 21yrs), coffee shop, supermarket and finally, as respite from the heat, the local library. Where I can wile away the afternoon in the company of some excellent books as Kerstin does all the actual work researching, play to your strengths I say! The Worland campground may lack the giggle factor of Thermopolis but you couldn't ask for a couple of more caring and dedicated hosts to make you feel looked after.

Wide Open Spaces.... Quite the way to make one realize how small we really are in this vast and varying world!
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that you are finally not turning into icicles over night!
Curious deer are wonderful peaceful companions! How blessed you both are. Such care takers!
So have you found that people know you are on the pathway before you get there?
Yooooodeeeeewhoooeeee Little Sister! (American spelling of course). Wow you two are impressive! What a spectacular adventure you have created for yourselves. I can't wait to see you in Rockport whenever you get here. Glad people are looking out for you along the way...
ReplyDeleteHey, guys! We got your package with the local Missoula newspaper! Did you notice that Minnesota featured? Bad news, unfortunately...about the beer distilleries closing down.
ReplyDeleteI guess you guys are far removed from all the news about the U.S. financial stand-off. Ugh...a very concerning time there indeed.
Anyway, got a kick out of your comments in the paper about not understanding what they were talking about re fly fishing. I wouldn't have understood either if it weren't for my maniac fly fishing friend Rob. Amazing, eh - it's a whole other world!
I'm pretty impressed that you caught Harry Potter, Louise. I haven't even seen it yet!
Safe travels...
