The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Rest Day in Colville, yay!

The day opens bright and relatively clear after a very comfortable night in a real bed with pillows, sheets and everything :) Laundry and grocery shopping done the day is ours. We follow the locals to 'the breakfast corner' for a genuine American breakfast. Our "mini" meal, seriously that's how it was described on the menu, consisted of 2 large pieces of toast, 2 eggs and 2 big hash browns! This all served with the obligatory endless cup of coffee, surrounded by the Rodeo cowpeople, was a fantastic experience! We moesed over to the Rodeo and were well entertained for the afternoon. We stood up for the Canadian, and American Anthems, and were pleased when immediately post those anthems, Australia's followed with a little TNT by ACDC! Still full from breakfast we weren't brave enough to try the giant elephant ears, corn dogs or enormous bags of flavored popcorn but I was brave enough to pose next to the enormous utes on display from the local car dealer. The skills of the cowpeople were extraordinary and we were so impressed, it really was just amazing. The Rodeo clown warmed the crowd up with the help of the rodeo announcer, and their political jokes put us formally in Republican country. We look forward to rolling along again tomorrow on our steel horses.

  1. A day of western culture... I am glad to read that you are able to experience so much! Rest well tonight and ride strong tomorrow! May the wind be a help and the sun peak out, but not in a scorching fashion!

  3. What a great experience. Now girls, no more complaints about the weather - well OK you can be "not happy" with the wind and cold - but you are lucky you are not in Melb/Ballarat at present. Fierce winds, those which are too lazy to go around so go straight through you. And a bleak aspect of grey skys for the next few days. Plus the poor air travellers again disrupted by the Chilean ash cloud which decided to drift back across Oz. Thank you for supplying Tash's great coat - that and the large blanket I put on her each night keeps her toast warm. Tash says 3 sleeps till Arnie and Ruby arrive on Fri evening. Making another 2 loaves of Sourdough bread tomorrow. 2 ladies from Book Club now have the recipe and they want the Culture so it is "spreading". Enjoy te next ride. xx

  4. Hey, guys - sounds like a GREAT day. But the hashbrowns...were they the frozen kind? When you say "Two big hashbrowns", that sounds like preformed hashbrowns, which I would be disappointed about.

We had a great night on Saturday night - our friend Janet's 40th, and we were up until...wait for it...2:30 a.m.!!! I am SO too old for that! We were all pretty wiped the next day. Ah, well, you only turn 40 once!

Weather has gotten colder here again, which I am pleased about, but we are fortunate to have our gas heating.

This coming weekend we are having Judi and Ally stay for the weekend to give them a break from child minding.

Liz is off tonight on a work leadership thing. She sends her love, as does Scout.

    Ride safe!

    Love, Us
