After a fantastic nights sleep, with no fears of bears, on the soft green grass of Susie's place we set off in good spirits for Boulder Creek Pass, 4600ft high and 11 miles away. Either we are getting stronger or the Pass is an easier one. We celebrate a job well done at the peak, thinking that the hardest part of the day is done, how wrong we were!
Rain, of course, and not just a sprinkle, proper heavy, wet rain, accompanied by a cold head wind will be our companions for the next 3 hours of drudgery to Kettle Falls. But once we crossed the spectacular Columbia River things started to look up. The rain reduced to just a drizzle and the 8 miles into Colville seemed once again achievable. And with the prospect of a complete day off tomorrow and the promise of the local Rodeo to entertain us those 8 miles flew past. Our budget motel comes equipped with free wifi and as an added bonus 2 other cyclists stay in the room next to ours. They are riding east to west and are just days away from the end of their journey! Advice and stories from the saddle are shared, and it all seems worthwhile.
After a hot, long shower (one of the greatest pleasures on earth!) and dinner at the local Mexican place, including a very nice Margo, we are feeling pretty proud of ourselves and are enjoying that feeling of physical tiredness after a tough day and the nearness of a comfy bed.

Enjoy the rest day. Loving the commentary. Perhaps you can write an article or book from your travels. Tash has made an art of snuggling up and sleeping on Dale's behind and shrinking herself to inconspicuous (well trying) in front of the fire. But she eagerly follows me out to the front paddock now and loves exploring the overnight smells there. Then absolutely running full pelt around and in between trees. Your Dad trying to send you a comment, the computer really baffles him.
ReplyDeleteOh, fantastic...there is nothing like sharing stories with people on the same type of journey as you...so pleased to hear that.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Tash is settling in well too. So sweet.
Wow, you're really enjoying the Mexican food too, eh? Don't make us jealous.
Enjoy your well earned rest day, guys. I'm sure it will be spent at the laundry, eh?
