The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 1 Seattle to South Whidbey Island State Park 75km

Perfect start! Cheered on our way by Alice, Rohan and a random bloke from Minneapolis. From downtown Seattle to the university we braved the traffic, roadwork and riding on the right hand side. Then 17 miles on a fantastic trail out of town, was so excited to see a squirrel! Already so impressed by bicycle infrastructure and courteous drivers in Washington, Sydney should take note! Ferry crossing was a lovely break, and we got to watch some seals basking in the Puget Sound. First decent hills were met and beaten on the island, glad to arrive at the lovely quiet campground where a walk on the beach and spotting a Bald Eagle made it all worthwhile, bloody cold though!
