The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 111 North Haverhill to Conway 87km

A start in the cold and dampness of such extent that the dew runs down the inside walls of the tent does not bode well. The fog is thick and blocks the sun from providing some much needed solar powered drying. Just the road up out of the campground made my legs ache, and the cold wind through my damp clothes was chilling, I was miserable. But some more pain and misery brought it's rewards when we rode up high enough to leave the fog behind.

And up here in the sunshine, New England is glorious. The colours are enough to inspire poetry, the sound, sight and smell of autumn leaves surrounds us, and our spirits soar as our tires roll along with ease, thanks to the benefits of positivity.

We are joined on the Kancamagus Highway up and over the Kancamagus Pass by tourists known as 'leaf peepers', whose aim in leaf appreciation makes them safe, slow moving, courteous drivers. The pass is surprisingly easy, not that we didn't sweat and grit our teeth against the pain, but recalling the suffering of previous passes, we feel well pleased with ourselves on reaching the top.

To this feeling of pride we also add the sense of achievement that we have crossed the last major impediment between us and the finish line. The downhill glide to our campground is a slide show of picture postcards of the White Mountains, with a big smile, and the hallelujah chorus playing in my head today's glorious ride comes to an end.
