The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 110 Barre to North Haverhill 68km

Today was one of those days when it feels as if everything is going your way. Wake up warm and dry in a hotel room when it is cool and foggy outside. Roll out the door after breakfast, and the sun comes out to play almost immediately. She will keep shining all day, and the effect of the sunshine on the autumn leaves is spectacular. It feels as if we are riding over the waves of a fiery ocean.

For our last day in Vermont, we see the best of Vermont. Sunshine, warm weather, rolling hills, autumn leaves on the breeze, white churches with tall steeples, fields dotted with cows and, of course, the obligatory turkeys.

We cross the Connecticut River and enter our twelfth state, the state of New Hampshire, whose motto is nothing if not direct.

The road conditions immediately deteriorate and the hills become much steeper but the old mansions that dot the landscape are stately and perfectly matched to their surroundings. Despite the uphill trend we find ourselves at our campground early enough to enjoy a relaxing few hours in the sunshine, chatting, writing and catching up on news from home. Tomorrow we face the last big riding challenge of this trip, the Kancamagus Pass, wish us luck and a good attitude! Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
