Just 5 days as a part of the Bernstein/Schow household and we are already a part of the morning routine of coffee and newspaper. No instant coffee in this home! The saying, if you are going to do something then do it properly, is Robin's approach to perfect coffee. Going back to campsite coffee after this seems almost sacrilegious! Ginger, the cat, and I have an understanding that he will talk to me and I will scratch behind his ears, and Fatty Lumpkin, the guinea pig, and I have a routine that she will trot up and investigate me when I talk to her. The Coop is calling, and we head out for the best resupply of the trip so far, Robin has introduced us to dried sour cherries, and we are well addicted. Terry and Mary Beth meet us for second breakfast at the Seward Cafe, a community cafe where mobile phones are banned, and the hash browns are to die for! We duck across the road to their place, have a marvelous time playing with their personable pets, and get some great advice on routes through Michigan.
From one social engagement to the next! We have been invited to a backyard BBQ by Mackenzie and Ellen, connections made by Jackie (thank you). Conversation flows like we are old friends, rather than new ones, a gathering of like minded individuals, we canvas topics broadly, from wine, to American clichés to stories of thieving squirrels, much laughter was had! As well as much food, wine and genuinely excellent connection building.
We ride home in a dark Minneapolis, our super duper Knog lights finally get their chance to shine, and we feel at home in this city, made so welcome, so much a part of things, by some wonderful people. Only reaffirming our answer to the question often asked, what has been the highlight of the trip?... the people! Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
