The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 68 Clara City to Hutchinson 90km

Thank you Minnesota! If it wasn't for the Luce Line State Rail Trail all I would have had to write in today's blog was that today sucked! And it did for the miles and miles along highway 7, where the road was terrible, there was headwind for the third day in a row, and where my lack of sleep made the whole thing seem so much worse. We arrived in Cosmos with relief as the rail trail was supposed to start here, but despite lots of backwards and forwards on the local streets it could not be found. The reason why was quickly discovered, lack of maintenance seems to be a bit of an issue.

Another 8 miles on that bloody highway and I was ready to cry, the almost abandoned town of Cedar Mills proved to have one big thing going for it, the, sort of groomed, Luce Line Trail!

Where we could ride free of trucks, along the Crow river, watching for the frogs who are on the trail hunting grasshoppers. So for the last eight miles of today I was in bicycle heaven as we rode into the beautifully situated town of Hutchinson. A town with great bicycle infrastructure, the trail running through multiple parks leading into town, one of which allowed camping. So we could set up our tent, amongst the flocks of geese who obviously also think that this is a pretty nice spot. Knowing that tomorrow we will be in Minneapolis is a great thought to end the day with. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
