The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 50 Ten Sleep to Buffalo 103km over Powder River Pass

Today had everything! It was an emotional, scenic and cycling buffet. We rode the Cloud Peak Skyway over the Big Horn Mountains, a Wyomingnite's secret place, keep mercifully free of big tourist crowds! There were moments of joy, celebration, frustration, anger, pain, contentment, there were views to remember of ancient rock cliffs, of lakes and of oceans of green pine, and the cycling! We had the biggest elevation gain of the trip so far, a total of 5300ft in a 28 mile climb to the top of the pass, the highest altitude yet reached at 9666ft!

The downhill celebration on the otherside was rudely cut short by a conspiracy of more hills and not insignificant ones! A meeting with a young couple on a tandem cycling adventure helped to restore a good attitude as they travelled with such simplicity and happiness. A genuinely joy filled and speedy rush into Buffalo was only over the next couple of hills, and the idea of a pizza dinner, a rest day tomorrow, and an anniversary celebration was excellent motivation for those last miles. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
