Don't be thinking because the title says "rest" we didn't get up early, we wanted to be on the first shuttle bus to Jenny Lake at 0730. Even if it was absolutely freezing, and we made breakfast wearing gloves and jumping up and down to keep warm. It was so worth it! The must see destination of the Tetons for the up close and personal view of the Grand Teton itself, for the boat trip across Jenny Lake (Kerstin loves a boat trip!), and for the hike through the canyon, beyond the crowds who trek in only the first couple of miles. But the absolute highlight, the most fantastic thing...
We saw a moose!!! A real, live, up close, bull moose, a miraculous and slightly unbelievable animal, an aquatic animal, who eats water plants and can dive to depths of 6 metres! Who knew???

We wrapped up this excellent day with a carbo loading, cooked and cleaned by somebody else dinner, so we are ready to face the 2500ft climb over Towgotee Pass to a height of 9600ft tomorrow. Wish us luck and strong legs and minds!

WOW triple Wow about the lake trip and the moose!! Perhaps you could stay an extra day or so when you come across marvels like this??
ReplyDeleteRo and Al home, their luggage 'lost' for a day and when found, drenched by someone else's broken bottle of wine and case damaged - but hey, all claimable on insurance and the impt thing is they arehome safe and, like yourselves, marvelling about the scenery and the animals sighted. Dad up here today Louise, with forms for me to fill out [as well as working o/t in Ballarat] He wants to remove a tree near the carport and it is huge so he needs a Council permit. Ro's brother will do the job for him. I'm with Kerstin, I love lake trips. Remember to REST AWHILE along the way. Love Aunty Fran. Tash still charming people and if they don't pay attention to her, she 'whips' them with her tail.
What a beautiful moose! Been out of town, just getting caught up. Real email soon.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a most excellent experience! Moose are truly amazing creatures! They have great endurance for a wide variety of challenging existences through life. Their hooves are the shape and size they are to allow them to dive head first as they swim for food at the bottom of ponds.
ReplyDeleteThe Grand Tetons had a great deal of snow late in the season (into June I do believe) So it is not a total surprise to me that you two are experiencing a bit of cold....
What a gorgeous experience!
