Following local advice we trusted in good weather today, and were rewarded! Our worries about the hills that precede the Cascade ranges were confirmed, although the sunshine kept our spirits high. Views were both spectacular and "interesting". Local riders joined us for short segments or waved to us from their, more speedy, travels in the opposite direction. We continue to be amused, horrified and confused by the absolutely huge vehicles on the road, driven by everyone from grandparents to P platers. We enjoyed our first American tortilla wrap in sunshine, but a word to the wise, just because it says cheese on the packet, don't expect it to taste like it.
Louise was freaked out by the warnings of bear sightings at this campground, and insisted on following precisely all the instructions regarding avoiding attracting them to your camp, it's quite involved! And regardless spent half the night awake listening for them. Nothing was heard except to be awoken by a woodpecker in the morning!
Ha! Well, Louise...you guys absolutely should follow all the instructions to keep bears out of your camp. It is not something to mess with. So, you have my support on that. It only takes once you know!
ReplyDeleteI have heard that the cascades are beautiful!
Ah...and the sound of a woodpecker. These are North American sounds of the bush. I love it.
Have you smelt any skunk on the road yet???
Keeping your food and cooking area separate from your sleeping area is the most important. By the way, they really do not like noise, does one of you snore? ;-}
