The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 15 Cabinet Gorge to Libby 84km

An early start WAS planned but a poor nights sleep, rain and another flat tyre caused some delays, and general pissed-off-ness ;) but the absolutely spectacular views all along Bull River soon reversed our outlook. The perfectly clear alpine water created mirror images of the clouds and between it all the freshly washed pine greens and silhouettes of the snow topped Cabinet Mountains. The miles went past with ease, although a severe bucketing of rain forced a pit stop to empty shoes of excess water! The final 15 miles into Libby was a tailwind joy and we literally flew into town. The afternoon held only sunshine, a good breeze and laundry, a great combination. Taking advantage of the truly excellent produce, we ate 1kg of strawberries for dinner, along with some other things, yum! We continue to provide entertainment to the RV travelers, next to whom our little tent and daily antics of set up and pack up, look a bit like far too much trouble. But there is much to be said for travel that makes you a part of the environment, weather, dirt and all! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

  1. The comfort travelers do miss out on a great deal of connected experiences that can be enjoyed on the ground! Hopefully you will also be able to take time to sleep under the stars and not put up the tent along the way...
Have you had time to check out the stars?

  2. Oh, dear...if it's not rain (and hard rain at that), then it's blistering (literally, it seems) sun! That's tough stuff, guys, but it's making you tough, too.

I am THRILLED that you saw moose and her calf! How exciting! And the geese - are they honking (or do they only do that in fall???).

How lovely - the woman with the boys and the showers, etc. You're having such lovely experiences, I'm so glad for you. It's a wonderful way to travel, isn't it?

You must be fit as two fiddles by now! Speaking of fiddles, I wonder if you'll hear any good bluegrass or folk music...

    Riding safely!

    Love, Jackie and Liz
