The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 98 Ridgeway to Niagara Falls 44km

While Kerstin slept deeply last night, I was restless, and lucky that I was! After midnight a suspicious noise came from just outside the tent, a scratching kind of noise. Ignoring it didn't make it go away, so I was forced to go out and investigate. And who should I find attempting to scratch his way into our food bags but Pepe Le Phew's cousin! I was loath to provoke him into releasing his perfume but this proud skunk just slowly wandered off when disturbed from his scavenging by the light from my torch. And I was left to make a midnight dash to the bathroom in my underwear to store our food bag on a clothes hook. Kerstin meanwhile dreamt on, undisturbed. So although short of sleep today, the excitement of reaching Niagara Falls was plenty to keep me pedaling, and the easy riding along the friendship trail made it almost a rest day. We were blessed once again by the weather, with mostly sunny skies, another T-shirt day by which to view the spectacular Niagara Falls.

We were slightly horrified to discover that the town has a kind of Las Vegasesque centre strip, think lights, noise, theme parks and wax museums! Kerstin and I were content to make another late night stroll past the falls, and they really are beautiful.

Having our fill of tourist attractions for this month, we retired to the peace of our hotel room, an anti pasta dinner and a bottle of local Pinot Noir having much more appeal than a round of mini golf at the dinosaur park. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
