The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 88 Ludington to Luther 90km

Our campsite this morning reveals itself as being right next to a walking trail, well utilised by the locals, who are reveling in the beginning of their Labour Day long weekend. We wave to the runners, walkers, cyclists and enjoy especially the passing dog show. Our favourite is the great dane wearing the coat of a dalmation. We miss you Tash! You would love to chase the squirrels here! Following Rob's advice we are endeavoring to be in the present, rather than so absorbed in what's to come that we miss what is happening right now. And right now is our first day, in our 8th state, welcome to Michigan! Where on a sunny morning you could easily be forgiven for thinking that this lake is an ocean!

We, however, are plodding ever eastwards, and today this means we head into the green, farewell to Lake Michigan. The woods soon envelope us, they are different to their cousins in Wisconsin, less dense and made up of different species that southern hemisphere eyes don't recognise. A day of pleasant, easy riding, good weather and happy holidaying locals makes for a pair of pretty relaxed campers by mid afternoon. We even have the patience and fortitude to cope with the, closely, passing ATV and dirt bike riders, who noisily pass all afternoon. Kerstin is inspired once again, after the previous success, to light a campfire. Another success for which we are grateful when a cool change passes through. We feel so lucky to sit under the cloud hidden stars on a cool evening, warmed and mesmerised by a fire, completely content. As Kerstin just stated "who needs a TV?" - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

  1. Again, a range of experiences. Travellers also here as Joe and I have been to Adelaide and Tassy in the past 2 weeks. Met Beck & Joe in Launceston for Father's Day and Beck is in Sydney today for work. Josey and John on way today to Kathryn's wedding on Daydream Island (Friday) as Josey will be her attendant. Tash had her 1st swim in the dam and enjoyed it - our friends who stayed here said she just raced in as we had warm weather here for a few days.
