The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 108 Bristol to Waterbury 66km

After raining all night, it stopped right in time for breakfast, so although everything exposed to the overnight rain was soggy, the extremely humid, overcast and foggy weather meant absolutely everything promised to be soggy by the end of the day. As we rode out the mountains surrounding us wore the low clouds like cloaks.

The route, as cobbled together from bits of info and advice from all over, would take us first north to Richmond, rumored to have an excellent bakery. Rumors which proved correct, an excellent bakery, with a truly excellent front door. (this one's for you Uncle Joe)

A really warm, environmentally conscious and community minded little city. The organisation 350.org was having a bike ride to raise awareness, and we enjoyed their spirit as we rode along as well. The return of the rain after lunch emptied the streets, of everyone except us, the puddles and the mud. On the search for the Little River State Park, we find it, finally, at the top of a 4 mile climb up a dirt road. Kerstin is worried about a new noise emanating from Mrs Robinson, but we decide that before we do anything else, we must first fix the atrocious smell emanating from ourselves. Post hot shower and thorough scrub we can face anything, it has even stopped raining. Cleaning a good portion of the mud and grit from Mrs Robinson helps, but a visit to the bike doctor is still required. After a restorative cup of tea, we head out on foot, oh the novelty! The views from the park make that bloody climb almost worth it ;)

  1. Hi girls,
Uncle Joe loved the Bakery door with the spoon handle.
Only a few States to go now. Hope Mrs Robinson OK. I think you will finish before the really cold weather arrives.
