The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 30 Wisdom to Jackson 30km A Bicycle Lingering Day

Yay for blueberry pancakes! A perfect slow breakfast for a slow bicycle day, only 30kms to our next stop. A very long, very straight road takes us out of town, with virtually no cars on the road we are a curiosity to the cows munching on the surrounding plains. The mountains continue to amaze, and we are doubly amazed that we got ourselves here, to this very moment, to see this very view, by bicycle! Like someone flicking a switch the headwind comes from nowhere, and I am damn glad it is only another 8 miles of gusty sidewinds to Jackson, head down and pedal. An unusual reception at Jackson Lodge (grumpy boss syndrome) leaves us feeling sympathy for the young staff member and having a healthy respect for the long list of rules. But a long soaking in the big hot spring fed pool, which we share with no other guests leaves all worries and sore muscles behind. A hamburger dinner, meeting the many other cyclists gathered around the TV, watching the tour de France, of course, and I am glad we approach this journey in our own style. As our new bicycle travel hero, Willie Weir says about 'bicycle lingering' "unlike a bicycle race, I believe it is more likely for the participant who arrives last at the end of a days ride, to have reaped the most rewards." - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

  1. Hi girls,
again, impressed by your descriptions and thrilled when you write "More proof that the people here are the highlight of this trip". Cold, chilly, windy here but all are well. Tash really exploring front paddock now and waits and paws the gate to get out. She will have run of back paddocks as soon as we re organise the goats.
