The bike is good project began life in 2011 as a transcontinental bicycle adventure. As we pedalled from Seattle to Boston it grew into something even bigger. Life from the bike became life as we knew it, a way of engaging with the world that was much richer and honest than we had previously known. On our return to Australia we have tried to continue in the b.i.g. spirit, still happiest pedalling!

Day 27 Missoula to Hamilton 89km

We are reluctant to rise from our comfy bed for dual reasons, firstly after a late night watching fireworks in excellent company and secondly because we must mount our steel horses and ride away from our new friends. We are sad to leave and dawdle over breakfast with Jenn. But the day is only going to get hotter, another perfect summers day as ordered, and we depart with promises to stay in touch. An easy days ride with the weather, the wind and the bicycle paths all going our way, giving us time to reflect and digest the events of the past few days, and to file away the good memories. We meet many local cyclists out on the cycle tracks, who offer a friendly wave, a smile or a bit of conversation as we pedal. A shoulderless section of the hwy challenges my good spirits, but a stop for an icypole is a simple, and effective solution. My desire for decent, not spectacular, just decent cheese gets me into trouble at Corvallis supermarket, where a very flustered check out woman decides I cannot have that cheese, since they don't sell it! How it got onto the shelf is anyone's guess. So we lunch sans cheese, decent or otherwise. With the now hot sun directly overhead we roll with satisfaction into Hamilton, where the sign says it's 92 degrees (33C) and that "forgiveness is the best revenge", I always like my local carwash to have a message ;). Glad to have had such a good day to restart this cycling caper. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

  1. Keep looking for cheese. There are good ones made for sure and many that are shipped in...
