The plus of those extra kms yesterday means a much shorter day today, so with time on our side we decide to indulge in breakfast at the next town, Seeley Lake. The highlight of the morning is hearing all the Loon calls as they flew over the lakes, beautiful. A challenging 12 miles into town, up and down, through lots of blind corners without the benefit of a shoulder to ride on, and I am very glad to arrive for a well deserved breakfast, still no homefries (sorry Jackie, will keep trying). A bike lane through town takes us from breakfast, to post office (more postcards on the way!), to supermarket without having to traverse the dreaded hwy 83 of this mornings new grey hairs. The winner of the first person to guess my accent correctly goes to the lady outside the supermarket who stopped for a bit of a chat, loved Queensland and thought Kerstin and I were brave. The winner of the most interesting offer so far was from the bloke outside the supermarket in the cowboy hat who thought we would be better off using his pack mules to get to Boston! We kindly decline, happy with our steel horses, and suck it up to face the last 15 miles of hwy 83, after which, of course, a milkshake and the local paper is essential. The final 10 miles to our interestingly named campground should be a breeze, yes it's uphill but hwy 200 has BIG shoulders and a great surface... bloody headwind! We take a rest from the unrelenting wind with a pair of local cyclists also on a tour, who we actually overtake, but only because they are towing their, not small, dogs in bike trailers! Out of the wind, on the deserted campground we spend a bit of time looking for someone to pay and enjoying the peace and sunshine. A cabin and hallelujah a long, hot, high pressure shower followed by a cup of tea and a chocolate bar and I swear life does not get any better!

ReplyDeleteHome fries are not usually a breakfast item.... You may need to buy lunch or dinner to find the best home fries. some are called Steak Fries....
ReplyDeleteI personally like them with ranch dressing and pepper....
